New!! - Photo looking from
rear of station towards the east. Notice the construction to the right of
the Keeper's Quarters entryway. This was originally built as a new mess
hall. It became the Group Commanders office in 1951-1952 after some
further additions. The building in the foreground was the Loran Monitoring
Station that was present for a short period of time. The crew monitored
the Bodie I NC and Nantucket Loran transmitters. (Thanks to
Bernie Webber for the amplifying info)
New!! - Photo of abutting
garage, with the former garage in the background. It is believed that the
Coast Guard rented this garage as overflow. It is now a lighthouse gift
shop open in the summer.
New!! - Photo of front of
station. The large rock in the foreground came from the overlook.
Bernie Webber and the crew par buckled the boulder up onto the front lawn.
The CG Shield done back in the 1950's is still on the rock, we update the paint
every few years. The Clam Shells spelling out United States Coast Guard
Station Chatham had to be taken up every time the crew mowed the lawn (and they
mowed the lawn with hand mowers).
Looking North from Chatham Light, notice the halfway house
in the center of the photo. (Ryder
