Master Chief Takakjian
assumed the duties of the 1st District’s Reserve Command Master Chief in
April of 2008. His primary responsibility is to advise
Rear Adm.
Daniel A. Neptun, the Commander of the First Coast Guard District, on issues and initiatives pertaining to Coast Guard Reserve members and their families within the district. The First District includes eight states in the Northeast and 2,000 miles of coastline from the U.S.-Canada border to northern New Jersey.
Master Chief Takakjian enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserve in January of 1984. After Boot Camp, Master Chief Takakjian attended MK “A” School in Yorktown VA. Along with assorted engineering related “C” schools, Master Chief Takakjian is also a graduate of the Chief Petty Officers Academy Reserve Class and the LDC’s Senior Enlisted Leadership Course. Additionally, Master Chief is a fellow of the National Defense University’s Keystone Program, class # 2009-02.
After graduation, his first tour of duty was with USCG Station Chatham, MA. In Chatham, he served as a small boat engineer and crewman on the 44’ MLB. Master Chief Takakjian next reported to Reserve Unit Vessels New Bedford where he providing augmentation and engineering support to the area’s 270’ Cutters and MAT Team. Master Chief Takakjian was then assigned to USCGC MONOMOY and served as an underway EOW, Crewman and Boarding Team Member. In July of 2003, Master Chief Takakjian was selected to serve a two-year EAD tour as one of the first Company Chief Petty Officers in the “Chief’s in the Barracks” program at the Coast Guard Academy. Returning to the SELRES, Master Chief Takakjian served as an Instructor for the Reserve Personnel Management and Leadership block at the Boat Forces Command Cadre Course in New London, CT until his current assignment.
His military decorations include the Cutterman Insignia, the Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal with “O” Device, Three Commandant’s Letter of Commendation Ribbons (2) with “O“ devices, Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, Six Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal’s, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and numerous unit and service awards. Master Chief Takakjian also was the recipient of the “Spirit of the Chief” award upon his graduation from the Chief’s Academy and is actively involved in the Chief’s Mess.
Master Chief Takakjian holds a BS in Criminal Justice from Roger William’s University. In his civilian occupation, Master Chief Takakjian is a Police Sergeant with the Truro Police Department in Truro, Massachusetts. Along with spending time with his family, his favorite hobby is flying antique airplanes.
