CGC TYBEE is the 30th “Island Class” patrol boat in the Coast Guard fleet. It was built at the Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, LA and was commissioned to active duty on February 5th, 1988. Originally home ported in San Diego, CA, she was transferred to the District One in 2003 to replace the CGC MONOMOY, now serving in Iraq. In early 2006, CGC TYBEE was the first Island Class cutter to enter the Mission Effectiveness Program (MEP). During that extended dry dock, she received numerous upgrades to her electronics, machinery, hull, and super-structure. She was re-commissioned in April 2007 and resumed her patrols in District One extending from the coasts of Maine to New Jersey.
