BMCS Kathleen McSweeney entered the Coast Guard and attended Basic Training at Cape May, NJ in 1991. Her first assignment was at Support Center, Kodiak, AK. After striking Boatswain’s Mate in 1993, BMCS McSweeney attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1994 she transferred to the USCGC MUNRO where she served with the deck department and advanced to BM2. In 1997 BMCS McSweeney transferred to CG Aids to Navigation Team San Francisco, where she served as the Operations Petty Officer, advanced to BM1 and fleeted up into the Executive Petty Officer billet. In 2002 she served as 1st Lieutenant aboard the USCGC TYBEE located in San Diego, CA. While assigned to TYBEE, BMCS McSweeney was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and transferred to CG Station Destin, Florida where she served as the Executive Petty Officer. Her next assignment was in 2006 as the Deck Department Head aboard USCGC JUNIPER located in Newport, Rhode Island. BMCS McSweeney advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2008 and transferred to USCGC MARCUS HANNA where she served as the Executive Petty Officer until reporting to CG Aids to Navigation Team Long Island Sound as Officer In Charge.
BMCS McSweeney was born in Milford, Massachusetts and raised in Jacksonville, Alabama the daughter of Richard and Corrie McSweeney and sister of Erin Waldrep and CWO Sean McSweeney.
