Buoys that ANT LIS Maintain

Lighted Buoys

The lighted buoys that ANT LIS can maintain are on the smaller side of the Coast Guard's lighted buoy inventory. Lighted buoys are described by the Coast Guard by the diameter of the buoy and by the height of the buoy. Here is an example:

5 x 11 LR
This buoy has a diameter of 5 feet and a height of 10 feet, 8 5/8 inches which has a light and a radar reflector.

The example listed above is the largest buoy that ANT LIS works as a primary aid, but can service the light on any sized lighted buoy. Some of the other lighted buoys that ANT LIS service as primary aids are the 5 x 11 LR, the 3.5 x 8 LR, and the 5 x 9 LFR. For pictures and physical characteristics of each of the lighted buoys choose which one you would like to see more information about.

Unlighted Buoys

ANT LIS maintains three different types of non-lighted buoys. They range from a Third Class non-lighted buoy to a Fifth Class non-lighted buoy. We also maintain foam buoys and a handfull of plastic buoys. A third class buoy is the largest unlighted buoy that ANT LIS can pull out of the water and service the buoy, chain, or sinker. We try to move a larger buoy with our 49-foot Buoy Ultility Stern Loading Boat. We also maintain all classes of foam buoys. For the plastic buoys, the Coast Guard only has fifth class plastic buoys in service. Most non-lighted buoys can be picked up on radar, due to radar reflectors inside the buoys.
