Master Chief Kevin Isherwood (DCMS-CMC)
The Command Master Chief for Mission Support is assigned to the reports to the Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS) at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC. The Command Master Chief is the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the DCMS and is the Command Master Chief for Coast Guard Headquarters’ Units located throughout the country.
The Command Master Chief (CMC) represents their commander, communicating goals and direction for the command to the field, while simultaneously representing the field’s views and concerns to the commander. The CMC provides a “field reality check” as they provide input to high level policy makers. They also act as a “resource person” assisting Coast Guard personnel and subordinate commands as required. Although the CMC is not in the chain of command, they strengthen it by working within the chain of command whenever possible to enhance communication and foster a better understanding of the needs and viewpoints of all members of the Coast Guard family. By advising, consulting, and participating in the senior leadership team, the CMC plays an important role in the continuous improvement of the Coast Guard. The vision of the CMC Program is, "Proactively assist Coast Guard members to be Ready Today - Preparing for Tomorrow." The CMC advises ALL team Coast Guard members on personnel policies, programs, ideas, and opportunities pertinent to their well-being, allowing them to focus on performing their mission and enhancing their careers. The CMC reports directly to their commander and keeps the chain of command aware and informed of sensitive and current issues whenever appropriate. One of the greatest values a CMC brings to the command is their relationship/understanding of workforce, at the deckplate level.
