2012 Maritime Security Forum

Coast Guard Personnel (Auxiliary, Active, Reserve, Retired, and, Civilian) Invited to attend the 2012 Maritime Security Forum, 14 March at the Coast Guard Academy

Hello Shipmate!

Allow me to introduce myself - I'm Captain Chris Sinnett, the current president of the Coast Guard Cuttermen Association (CGCA), and there's an important event taking place on Wednesday, March 14th, that I want to ensure all retirees are aware of and invite you to attend. This event is the 2012 Maritime Security Forum and it's being co-sponsored by the Coast Guard Cuttermen Association and the Surface Navy Association (SNA), and will take place in Leamy Hall at the Coast Guard Academy.

You can check out the agenda along with registration and lodging details at: http://www.navysna.org/CGForum/Index.htm.

Let me make one comment up front - the word "Cuttermen" refers to the men AND women who have served or will serve aboard our Coast Guard cutters. Membership in the CGCA is open to all persons - whether auxiliary, active, reserve, retired, civilian, enlisted, officer.... you get the idea. We even had some aviators at our last Cutterman's Call w/ VADM Parker in Alexandria, VA - we're open to ALL who support the cutter fleet in mind or deed and who want to be members.

The Maritime Security Forum is no-cost (that's right - it's FREE) and there is no requirement to be a current member of the CGCA. In addition to the panels, there will be displays manned by companies who function within the maritime security world of work. There is a fee for lunch if you want to eat at the buffet which will be provided in Leamy Hall. It's $5 for SNA/CGCA members and $8 for non-members.

A special invitation was sent to every cutter in New England (and is circulating through the shore units as well), because many of them are close enough to drive and make a day trip out of this event, or to only have to arrange one night's lodging at most. If you live near a Coast Guard unit in the New England region, there might be a carpooling possibility with others who are planning to attend.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2012 Maritime Security Forum. It's going to be a great opportunity for cuttermen and those who support the fleet to get together for camaraderie and stay abreast of issues that affect our world. Please register at the SNA website & shoot a note to me at CGCAPresident@gmail.com with your RSVP and any questions on the Security Forum or other issues of importance to the Cuttermen Association.

Fair Winds!

Captain Chris Sinnett
President
Coast Guard Cuttermen Association

Enrollment in the TRICARE Retiree Dental Program can provide cost-savings for dental care

The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) is the first and only group dental benefits plan authorized by the federal government for Uniformed Services retirees and their families. There are many reasons why enrollment in the TRDP can help save money on the cost of dental care. For more information about how enrolling in the TRDP can help reduce dental health care costs for Uniformed Services retirees and their families, visit the TRDP web site at http://www.trdp.org/.

Changes to Retiree ID Renewal Rules

Homeland Security Directive 12 now requires retirees and family members seeking to renew or replace a military identification card to provide two types of ID, one of which must include a photo. A list of acceptable documents can be found in PDF format on page No. 4 of Form I-9 (see the link below to access this form):

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf

Before visiting a military ID card issuing facility, you may want to call first to determine what specific documents may be required, and to verify the process to renew or replace an ID card. For contact information and the location of the nearest ID card issuing facility, visit the RAPIDS Site Locator website. On this website, you can search by city, state or ZIP code:

Moving? Don't forget to update your State Income Tax withholding

As a reminder when moving from one state to another and updating your home mailing address, don't forget to change your state tax withholdings. The retiree must request a change for state tax as an address change does not automatically change or stop the state information that the tax is being paid to.
