Requirements for Members Exceeding
Max Allowable Body Fat

Commands shall refer members exceeding maximum allowable body fat to their Primary Care Manager (PCM) to determine cause of weight gain.  Commands shall refer members to PCM by filling out Section 1 of the (Command Weight Referral Form SF 600) PCM's shall fill out Section 2. Members shall inform command of any medical problems with losing weight or starting an exercise program.

Members who exceed their maximum allowable weight shall, contact their Unit Health Promotion Coordinator (UHPC) within 72 hours to discuss plan of action, and complete the following within 10 days:

  • Choose Healthy Options for Wellness Assessment: The CHOW Assessment Tools were developed to help military communities assess their environment to determine the extent to which people can access healthy food options. Two versions of the tool are CHOW-Community and CHOW-Worksite. CHOW is and excellent tool to help you assess whether the food choices you make daily are meeting your nutrient needs.

  • Unit Food Service Specialist. Diet is a significant part of the weight management equation. Many of the Coast Guard’s Food Service Specialists (FSs) have special training in nutrition and healthy cooking techniques. FS personnel are valuable resources for information and play a major role in the availability of healthy food choices at their dining facilities.
  • Weight Management Self-Help Guide. The Weight Management Self-Help Guide, COMDTPUB P6200.3A was developed to provide employees and their families assistance with managing their weight. It is a self-paced tutorial which guides users through the various aspects and components of a successful weight management program. This publication can be found by accessing CG Directives.
