Non-Emergent Care

To schedule your bi-annual pap exam please call (504)253-4671.  If you have a history of abnormal pap exams please expect a referral to a specialist for this exam.  We currently do not have any female medical officers so all of these exams are performed by male medical officers.
Lab hours of operation:
Monday – Thursday 0700 – 1100 & 1300-1430 (for authorized walk-ins) and Friday 0700 - 1100 (for authorized walk-ins)
Lab procedures for having blood work done:
Fasting labs require the member to not have any food at least 12 hours prior to blood work to be drawn.  It is highly recommended that you drink plenty of water ONLY prior to getting labs drawn. Water keeps you hydrated and makes drawing blood easier. The lab technician is not authorized to draw blood without a Provider’s (MD, PA) prior authorization.
Please call the medical front desk at (504)253-4671 for availability Monday – Thursday 0700-1100 and 1300-1500, Friday 0700 - 1100.
Base New Orleans utilizes civilian Optometry and NSA West Bank Optometry service for care.  If you would like to be seen at the Navy West Bank Optometry, you can call 504-678-2400 (X3084).
At the Navy optometry, you can get the eye exam and order eyewear at the same place. If you would like to be seen at civilian Optometry, an HS will receive the request from a member to have an optometry appointment. Patients are reminded to inform the clinic personnel of the current use of contacts or glasses. The HS will screen the health record for validity and make a request to one of the medical providers to generate a referral in the system.  Once the authorization is granted by TRICARE, an appointment will be made with a civilian optometrist.  Once the member receives their eyewear prescription, they can come by medical on one of the days below and pick the eyewear they want.  Eyewear will then be ordered.  Turnaround time should be about two to four weeks.
Please come by with new eyewear prescriptions on Thursdays: 1230-1330. Call for availability on Fridays.
Retired personnel or dependants enrolled in TRICARE Prime options are not eligible for non-emergent care in Base New Orleans Coast Guard Clinic.
