Captain Dirk A. Stringer commissioned and assumed command of Base National Capital Region in March 2012. In this capacity, he provides all logistical support functions for the 4000+ personnel and 1 million+ square feet of real property located at the new DHS Campus in Southeast Washington, D.C. Additionally, he serves as the Executive Officer of Coast Guard Headquarters, responsible for all military justice adjudication for personnel assigned to Headquarters.
Captain Stringer joined the Coast Guard Reserve in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri in 1982. He began his career with eight years as a boatswains’ mate prior to receiving his commission from Officer Candidate School in 1990. Captain Stringer’s assignments include the 2nd Coast Guard District St. Louis, Missouri, OPBAT, Nassau, Bahamas, and Group Mobile Alabama. He returned to the selected reserve in 1995 assigned to Group Lower Mississippi River in Memphis, Tennessee and then ISC St. Louis, Missouri.
Captain Stringer accepted appointment as a Reserve Program Administrator in 2001 and subsequently received orders to Coast Guard Headquarters, Reserve Policy Division, followed by billets as Chief of Force Optimization and Training Division at ISC St. Louis, Executive Officer of ISC New Orleans, and Office of Reserve Management for the 8th District.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, St. Louis, Captain Stringer also holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of South Alabama, a Master of Human Resources degree from Webster University, and a Master of Organizational Security degree from Webster University. He is a former adjunct professor at Tulane University.
Captain Stringer is an ICS Type I Liaison Officer and Type II Planning Section Chief. The International Association of Emergency Management recognized Captain Stringer as a Certified Emergency Manager, and the Emergency Management Institute designated him as a Certified Contingency Practitioner.
Captain Stringer’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, two Commendation Medals, two Achievement Medals, and various other personal and unit awards. He is married to Trudy Stringer (Price) and has two stepdaughters (Danielle Flores and LT Bridget Tyrey) and a son (Andrew).
