R 211807Z NOV 12 ALCOAST 496/12 COMDTNOTE 1650 SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR 2013 CAPT STRATTON AND MCPO FAURIE WOMENS LEADERSHIP AWARD NOMINATIONS 1. The Sea Services Leadership Association (SSLA) requests nominations for the 2013 CAPT Dorothy Stratton and the MCPO Pearl Faurie Womens Leadership Awards. Established in 2001, these awards honor CAPT Stratton, the first director of the SPARS, and MCPO Faurie, the first woman Master Chief Petty Officer in the Coast Guard. 2. The CAPT Stratton award recognizes a woman officer, active duty or reserve, in the rank of CWO2 through LCDR who has demonstrated exceptional leadership. The MCPO Faurie award recognizes an active duty or reserve enlisted woman in paygrades E4 through E9 who also has exhibited exceptional leadership. 3. Award criteria for nominees: a. Demonstrated by example, inspirational, innovative and imaginative leadership and mentorship on and off duty b. Made significant decisions that resulted in lasting improvements in working conditions and quality of life for their peers, subordinates and the Coast Guard, and c. Exemplified the Coast Guard core values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty. 4. Nominations shall cover the period from January to December 2012 and be submitted in memorandum format from the members Commanding Officer, Officer in Charge, or first O-6/GS-15 in the chain of command addressed to the Coast Guard Office of Diversity COMDT (CG-12B). A template and example memorandums can be found at www.uscg.mil/diversity/JWLS.asp. Nominations should emphasize the nominees leadership qualities and include: a. Nomination paragraph, b. Nominees current assignment and responsibility, c. Narrative depicting demonstrated leadership abilities on duty, citing specific examples and impact of the members actions on working conditions and quality of life for their peers, subordinates and the Coast Guard, d. Narrative depicting demonstrated leadership abilities off duty, citing specific examples and impact, and e. Recommendation narrative from command. 5. Nominations shall be no longer than three pages. If CO/OINC is nominated, endorsement shall be from the next senior command. 6. Nominations must be received by COMDT (CG-12B) NLT 17DEC12. Award recipients will be honored in a ceremony at the 2013 SSLA Joint Womens Leadership Symposium held 11-12 March 2013 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Washington, DC.
