Operation Homefront is proud to announce that nominations are being accepted for the 2013 Military Child of the Year Award online at http://www.MilitaryChildofTheYear.org/ through 15 December 2012. Candidates for this honor must demonstrate resilience and strength of character and thrive in the face of the challenges of military life. They must also demonstrate leadership within their families and within their communities. A deserving child from each military branch will be honored at an awards ceremony held in Washington, DC on 11 April 2013. 2. To qualify for the 2013 Military Child of the Year Award, the child must meet the following qualifications: A. Must have a valid military ID or be currently enrolled in DEERS, B. Must be between the ages of 8-18 years, C. Must be able to travel to Washington DC for the awards gala on 11 April 2013, D. Must have a background check to confirm legitimacy of information provided on the nomination packet (if selected as a finalist), and E. Must provide references (if selected as a finalist). 3. If you are interested in submitting an application for a deserving Coast Guard child, please go online to http://www.MilitaryChildofTheYear.org/ and complete the online nomination form. Ensure that it is filled out completely and carefully. You will be asked for deployment information, number of permanent change of stations (PCS), volunteerism activities, special needs information, any injuries a parent might have suffered in service, and an essay on why your nominee is deserving of the award. 4.
