This message solicits nominations for the 2012 CFO Awards for Excellence IAW Chapter 6.I of reference A. 2. This award program provides recognition for noteworthy accomplishments by Coast Guard personnel in the areas of extraordinary leadership, resourcefulness, or imagination, innovative thinking and creative research, and initiative in execution of duties. 2012 nominations should reflect an emphasis on outstanding performance, innovative thinking, and improved methods in financial management. 3. There are eight personal award categories and a team category for the USCG CFO awards for excellence. The categories for the awards are: a. Commissioned Officer O-4 and above b. Commissioned Officer O-1 to O-3 c. Civilian Employees GS-13 and above d. Civilian Employees GS-9 to GS-12 e. Civilian Employees up to GS-8 f. Warrant Officer g. Enlisted Personnel E-7 and above h. Enlisted Personnel E-6 and below i. Team Achievement consisting of 4 to 20 personnel 4. Any Coast Guard employee may be nominated for a Coast Guard CFO award. It is not necessary for the nominee to be assigned to a financial, procurement or logistics management position. The period for this years awards is the calendar year ending 31 December 2012. Commands may nominate as many individuals or teams as desired in each category. Nominations for these awards do not preclude nominees from receiving other awards, such as a DHS CFO award, personal award or cash/time off award, for the same action. All nominations shall be submitted IAW ref A. 5. Submission instructions, specific categories and other details for the CG CFO awards are found in ref A. Submit nominations using the Recommendation for Award for Excellence/Certificate of Recognition Form (CG-5374) available in CGForms. The proposed citation box must not exceed 14 lines of times new roman text. Citations exceeding 14 lines will be returned to the nominating command. The second page of the Recommendation for Award for Excellence/Certificate of Recognition Form (CG-5374) should be used to write the award justification. Nominations shall be submitted electronically by email to Serena.I.Sanchez(at)uscg.mil. Ensure that files are saved accordingly: last name.cfo.doc. Hard copies of nominations are not required and should not be forwarded. All nominations must be received by COMDT (CG-8R) prior to 1600 EST on 15 January 2013 to be considered by this years panel. Team award submissions shall include a list of team members identifying the team leader and each team members first name, middle initial, last name, position, title, rank, unit address and unit phone/fax number. 6. COMDT (CG-8) will convene a panel of Coast Guard resource managers from the award area communities the week of 21 January 2012 to review the nominations and recommend awardees. Members from the financial management, comptrollership, acquisition, procurement and logistics communities who wish to be considered for membership on the selection panel should send their request to the POC listed in Para (8) NLT 04 January 2013. The members of the selection panel will be chosen by COMDT (CG-8) and will be notified by 11 January 2013. USCG CFO award winners will be announced in the Spring of 2013. 7.
