R 022008Z NOV 12 ALCOAST 471/12 COMDTNOTE 5270 SUBJ: COAST GUARD BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (CGBI) TRAINING AND SUPPORT 1. Business Intelligence provides historical, current and predictive views of organizational data to support better decision-making in alignment with personnel, unit, and organizational strategic goals. Coast Guard Business Intelligence is a cornerstone of the Coast Guards Knowledge Management System. With access to over 40 authoritative data source systems, CGBI provides vital information to sustain mission excellence and enable fact-based decision making in routine and crisis situations. 2. The CGBI Program Office provides training and support to units across the Coast Guard. Training options include: a. A standardized curriculum of basic instruction in CGBI access and use. b. An advanced class on more sophisticated methods and tools available to access and analyze the wealth of information provided by CGBI. c. Executive training sessions that provide a brief, but thorough review of CGBI system interface and capabilities. Our team also uses executive briefings as opportunities to solicit leaderships input on CGBI tools and interface design. d. Virtual training tailored to a customer or group and done via Microsoft Live Meeting. Topics of instruction are request-driven and usually focus on a specific area or specialty. e. Computer based training (CBT) on the e-learning portal. CBT includes four self-paced learning modules and addresses basic CGBI reports and cubes functionality. f. Tailored training visits to meet specific customer needs. 3. The CGBI team will contact districts in advance to identify classes, dates and locations that meet local unit needs. The program office goal is to provide onsite opportunities to each district and their subcommands once a year. Additional training requests will be considered and scheduled as resources allow.
