SUBJ: 2012 WOMEN OF COLOR STEM CONFERENCE AND HONOREES
1. The 2012 Women of Color (WOC) Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math (STEM) Conference will be held 11-13 October 2012 at the Dallas
Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas.  Hosted by Career Communications
Group, Women of Color Magazine recognizes outstanding women in the
STEM fields and provides excellent opportunities for professional
development, networking, outreach, and recruiting.  The conference
also provides specialized training for persons with STEM backgrounds
and the award ceremonies acknowledge the superior achievements of
outstanding women in STEM disciplines.
2. Congratulations to the 2012 Coast Guard WOC STEM Honorees.  Each
of these members are most deserving of this special recognition.
Through their distinguished service, they have epitomized the core
values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty and have advanced the
Commandants vision of Strengthening our Partnerships.
       A. Gala Level Awards recognizes personnel at top levels in
STEM
career fields.

          (2) Ms. Niketa Brown, COMDT (CG-9321) Managerial Leadership
Award
       B. Technology All-Stars: Technology All-Stars are accomplished
women from mid-level to advanced stages of their careers that have
demonstrated excellence in the workplace and in their communities.

3. USCG Training Forum at WOC STEM: This year, the Coast Guard will
conduct a three-event training forum at the WOC STEM Conference. This
is a first for the Coast Guard.  The forum will feature panelists
from military services covering women issues, professional
development, and mentoring.  The USCG Training Forum will focus on
mentoring junior/mid-grade officers and enlisted members.  The
following leaders from across the military and government will
participate in the forum:

           (2) RADM Sandra Stosz, USCG
           (3) Ms. Giao Phan, SES, USCG
           (4) MG Sharon Dunbar, USAF
           (5) CMDCM Chief Evelyn Banks, USN

4. CFO Approval: The Coast Guard Chief Financial Officer (CG-8), the
USCG senior financial officer, has approved USCG personnel attendance
and participation at this conference.  This approval authorizes
service obligation of appropriated funds for the purpose of attending
and supporting participation in the WOC STEM Conference. CFO approval
