COAST GUARD WEIGHT AND BODY FAT STANDARDS PROGRAM MANUAL, COMDTINST M1020.8 (SERIES) B. COAST GUARD HEALTH PROMOTION MANUAL, COMDTINST M6200.1 (SERIES) 1. This ALCOAST announces the release of the revised Ref (A). All previously announced screening weights and maximum body fat percentages remain in effect. Significant changes include: a. Weight probation begins immediately upon a non-compliant weigh-in. This change will take effect beginning with the October 2012 semiannual weigh-ins. Non-compliant members will still receive a command weight referral and have 30 days to complete medical screening to ensure no underlying condition exists to prevent weight loss. b. Alternative body fat measurements (e.g. calipers, full body immersion) are no longer authorized. The only authorized method of measuring body fat is the use of tension tape. Personnel may continue to submit waiver requests to CG PSC until 30 Sep 2012, however all waivers will expire on 1 May 2013. No new waivers will be approved after that date. c. Specifics regarding physical fitness requirements while on weight probation are removed and will be included in the next revision of Ref (B). Members placed on probation must continue to complete a Personal Fitness Plan (CG 6049) and follow the guidance of their Unit Health Promotion Coordinator (UHPC) until updated guidance is published. d. Personnel are required to weigh-in 30 days prior to a PCS transfer. e. Additional guidance for resident training courses has been added. f. Commanding officers (COs) and officers in charge (OICs) are no longer authorized to grant a mid-probation abeyance of up to 30 days. However COs/OICs may extend probation by up to 30 days for members found not compliant at the end of the probation period. 2.
