I am pleased to announce the Coast Guard nominees for the 2012 IAEM Uniformed Services Caucus Uniformed Member of the Year and Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year awards. 2. Ref A solicited nominations for the inaugural International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Uniformed Services Caucus Awards. OSCS Douglas W. Samp from Sector San Francisco has been selected as the Coast Guard nominee for the IAEM Uniformed Member of the Year. OSCS Samp has distinguished himself in coordinating contingency and operational planning in the San Francisco Bay area. Mr. David Mergenthaler from Sector Buffalo has been selected as the Coast Guard nominee for the IAEM Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year. Mr. Mergenthaler significantly enhanced Incident Management and preparedness activities in the Eastern Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. 3. These individuals were selected from a strong pool of nominees representing a wide range of emergency management disciplines supporting oil and hazardous material response, contingency planning, maritime security planning, mass rescue operations, national special security events, and disaster response operations. The range of these activities demonstrates the broad emergency management capability within the Coast Guard that helps to protect our Nation. Thank you to all the commands that submitted these well deserved nominations. 4. The two Coast Guard nominees have been forwarded to the IAEM for further consideration for the respective award categories. The CG nominees will compete against representatives from the other uniformed services for the 2012 Uniformed Services Caucus Uniformed Member of the Year and Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year awards. The winners of these awards will be announced at the IAEM conference in October. COMDT (CG-CPE) will fund travel costs for the nominees to attend the IAEM conference and award presentation. 5.
