R 141514Z AUG 12 ALCOAST 375/12 COMDTNOTE 5351 SUBJ: 2012 SPOTLIGHT ON LEADERSHIP CAMPAIGN CONTEST WINNERS 1. The 2012 Spotlight on Leadership Campaign Contest winners have been chosen. Below are summaries of what each unit accomplished to earn the award. 2. First Place (Tie): CG SECTOR MIAMI used various leadership campaign activities to highlight the importance of leadership, some highlights included: a. Created video highlighting how members personal values aligned with Coast Guard values. b. Invited retired CWO aboard to lead a series of team building exercises. c. Collaborated with 30 FEMA leaders to conduct joint interagency conflict management exercises. d. Conducted case study of President Lincolns decision to select prior political adversaries for key cabinet positions. 3. First Place (Tie): CG HSWL BOSTON also used various leadership campaign activities to highlight the importance of leadership, some highlights included: a. Created a game called Coast Guard Spirit to demonstrate how they espouse Coast Guard values. b. Viewed and critiqued movie, The Guardian, identifying the leaders and what made them stand out. c. Participated in role playing exercises, experimenting with different types of conflict resolution, followed by in depth discussion. d. Created a daily recognition board that provided daily examples of team work witnessed by other members. 4. Second Place: CGC NANTUCKET a. Conducted discussion concerning aligning values led by most junior members of the unit followed by participation in games demonstrating these values. b. Incorporated team building exercises into a standard fitness routine including activities that allowed members to experience leadership roles and participate in trust exercises. c. Conducted open forum regarding common conflicts experienced in normal operations followed by discussion on how to reduce these conflicts and improve areas of success. 5.
