R 271400Z JUL 12 ALCOAST 345/12 COMDTNOTE 1650 SUBJ: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2012 INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF EMERGENCY MANAGERS (IAEM) UNIFORMED AND CIVILIAN MEMBER EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AWARDS 1. This ALCOAST solicits Coast Guard nominees for the IAEM Uniformed Service Caucus Awards in two award categories: Uniformed Member of the Year Award and Civilian Emergency Manager of the Year Award. These awards will recognize outstanding achievements in the Emergency Management field. The interagency Principles of Emergency Management (EM) document defines EM as the managerial function charged with creating the framework within which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. 2. The following information details the award guidelines and gives internal Coast Guard guidance for nominations: a. Eligible applicants are: CG Active Duty, Reserve, Auxiliary and Civilian members. b. Submission requirements: Command endorsement cover letter with complete contact information for both the nominee and nominator, a one-page description in bullet form of significant achievements and contributions to include the following categories: Accomplishments, Technical Competence, Leadership Ability, Initiative, and Resourcefulness. Use of abbreviations is acceptable with an abbreviation list on a separate sheet. Use only Times New Roman font with 10 or 12 point font size. c. Period of award: 1 Jan 2011 through 30 Jun 2012. 3. Nominations must be received by CG-CPE-2 via email to jason.gunning(at)uscg.mil no later than 10 Aug 2012 including scanned command endorsement letters. 4. Director of Incident Management and Preparedness Policy will serve as the USCGs Emergency Management directorate Flag/SES endorsement and single submission point for the USCG entry for each award as required by IAEM award guidelines. 5.
