I am pleased to announce that LCDR Eva Van Camp, currently assigned to Base Los Angeles Long Beach (LA/LB), has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 Captain Edward R. Williams Award for Excellence in Diversity. The award will be presented on 24 July 2012 at The Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans, LA during the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) conference. This award is given to the Coast Guard officer or chief warrant officer (active or reserve) determined to have been most supportive of initiatives to achieve, value and manage diversity in the Coast Guard. 2. Among her many accomplishments, LCDR Van Camp was a leader in establishing the Greater New Orleans Leadership and Diversity Committee. The committee included members from the District, Sector, Air Station, BSU, and surrounding MSUs. The committee hosted events that provided networking opportunities, professional development seminars and mentorship, including one officer and two enlisted speed mentoring sessions. The sessions paired 23 senior officers and senior enlisted with over 100 junior officers and junior enlisted members. Additionally, LCDR Van Camp worked with the New Orleans Chapter of Womens International Shipping and Trading Association to improve the maritime safety/security planning, response, and coordination efforts for major public events in New Orleans. Bringing this dedication and enthusiasm to Base LA/LB, LCDR Van Camp partnered with Sector LA/LB to organize junior officer and enlisted speed mentoring sessions and two womens brown bag networking lunches encompassing 120 men and women from 10 units in the greater LA area. She established the Base LA/LB Leadership and Diversity Advisory Council before Coast Guard policy was promulgated and was nominated and selected to be one of five panel members for the CG Academy Distinguished Graduates Panel. She also provided invaluable assistance to the Coast Guard Academy Admissions office by performing outreach in the LA/LB area, providing tours, answering numerous questions, and offering assistance to students who received appointments to the Coast Guard Academy. LCDR Van Camp is truly an outstanding officer whose leadership and reputation both on and off duty are an inspiration for all to emulate. 3.
