I am pleased to announce the Coast Guard fulltime and collateral duty ESOY award recipients that were carefully selected from the nominations submitted per Ref (A). Education Services Officers (ESOs) are vital command leaders that devote a significant amount of time helping our workforce pursue professional and educational goals. They are the backbone of our voluntary education program. The ESOY awards recognize the two most outstanding members of this dedicated cadre of service providers. 2. Mr. Brian Streichert, CG Sector Sault Ste Marie, MI, is the Coast Guard fulltime ESOY. Mr. Streichert excelled at providing numerous educational opportunities and services to the sector staff and surrounding units. Mr. Streichert worked with over 30 higher learning institutions to increase educational opportunities for active duty, reserve, civilian employees, and military dependents. Rating training support by Mr. Steichert resulted in a 100 percent increase in Coast Guard advancement rates from the previous year at Sector Sault Ste Marie. 3. LTJG Jesse Summerlin, USCGC CAMPBELL, is the Coast Guard collateral duty ESOY. LTJG Summerlin excelled at providing numerous educational opportunities and services to the crew of CAMPBELL and other local units. Most notably, LTJG Summerlin coordinated and implemented an innovative Professor at Sea program. Despite a high operational tempo underway, superb coordination by LTJG Summerlin resulted in 27 shipmates earning a combined 117 lower and upper level college credits. 4. I applaud the efforts of both Mr. Streichert and LTJG Summerlin along with the other ESO finalists and nominees. Choosing a winner for each category was difficult. The following finalists earned an honorable mention. a. Fulltime ESO: (1) Mr. Robert Mckee, Coast Guard Sector San Juan, PR, (2) Ms. Donna Duellberg, Coast Guard Base Honolulu, HI. b.
