Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Captain Edward R. Williams Coast Guard Award for Excellence in Diversity. This award is presented annually by the National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) and recognizes the Coast Guard Officer, or Chief Warrant Officer, (active or reserve), determined to have been the most supportive of initiatives to achieve, value, and manage diversity in the Coast Guard. The Williams Award is named in honor of Captain Edward R. Williams, a retired Reserve Program Administrator, who was instrumental in the development, implementation, and establishment of the Coast Guard Mentoring Program and the CG Diversity Staff. 2. Pending the update of Ref (a), the award criterion are provided in para 3. 3. Commanding officers may nominate one active or reserve officer, or chief warrant officer, who has not previously received this award. Nomination packages should highlight activities and accomplishments over the previous three years from 1 June 2009 to 31 May 2012 that demonstrate a commitment to Coast Guard diversity initiatives, such as mentoring minorities and/or women, promoting recruitment or retention of minorities and/or women, increasing awareness of minority and/or women issues, and/or their history in the Coast Guard. 4. Submit nominations to the POC below. Nomination packages may be in either paper or electronic format. Due date is 5 July 2012. Nominations shall be in CG memo format, in 12-point type with one-inch margins not to exceed two pages. 5. COMDT (CG-12B) will convene a selection panel and announce the results via ALCOAST. 6. The award will be presented at the NNOA National Conference in New Orleans, LA, 23-27 July 2012. COMDT (CG-12B) will fund travel costs for the award recipient. 7.
