The FORCECOM Performance Technology Center, has received DHS approval to host the 2012 Coast Guard Human Performance Technology (HPT) Workshop in Hampton, VA, 12-14 September 2012. Per Section 4.B. of Ref (A), Coast Guard attendees are not required to submit a conference attendance request to attend. As part of the government wide effort to control conference and TDY costs, the HPT Conference is shifting to a biennial format with the next conference scheduled for 2014. 2. The keynote speaker is Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, Ph.D. Dr. Bichelmeyer serves as Professor of Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University - Bloomington, and as Associate Vice President for University Academic Planning and Policy, as well as Director of the Office of Online Education for the seven campuses of Indiana University. Her expertise is in human performance improvement, instructional and program evaluation, instructional design, and online instructional environments. She has served as a consultant to the United States Coast Guard, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Bar Association, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Sprint, Eli Lilly, Procter and Gamble, Microsoft and the Indiana Supreme Court. 3. This three-day workshop provides a forum for HPT professionals to share their recent work and research in the world of performance improvement. It also serves to enhance the practice of HPT in the Coast Guard through demonstrations of new technologies, techniques, discussions of current trends and issues, and sharing of best practices. In 2011, the workshop attracted over 480 participants representing a broad cross section of CG, DOD, DHS, government agencies, academia, government contractors, and international military. As a result, the workshop created a collaborative environment focused on partnering to support mission execution. 4. The theme of the 2012 workshop is, "Performance Improvement: What Really Works?" Attendees will have the chance to connect with other professionals focused on improving workforce performance. These connections will include Force Readiness Command, Training Centers, Program Managers, and Rating Force Master Chiefs. 5.
