COMCOGARD PSC ARLINGTON VA//C// R 231313Z APR 12 / ALCGPSC 053/12 1. Per Ref A, this message solicits Aviation Officers to apply for the Aviation Safety Science Advanced Education Program. The primary degree programs are the Master of Science in Safety Science (MSSS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), Prescott, AZ, or the Master of Science in Aeronautics (MSA) with specialization in Aviation/Aerospace Safety Systems at ERAU, Daytona Beach, FL. Final determination for program attendance will be made by COMDT (CG-1131) based on a thorough review of current and anticipated Aviation Safety Program needs. 2. Selectees should expect a follow-on assignment to important Aviation Safety Management positions in COMDT (CG-1131), ATC Mobile, ALC, or US Navy School of Aviation Safety. Subsequent rotational tours in operational assignment after payback are expected and supported by the Program Manager to develop well-rounded Aviation Officers who are capable of performing in a number of multi-mission areas. 3. Prerequisites for selection: A. Primary: Aviation Officers O-3 to O-4, but any interested CG Aviation Officer O-5 and below may apply. Candidates shall be tour complete in 2013. Officers are also strongly encouraged to examine their Aviation Career Incentive Pay (ACIP) gates prior to their decision to apply as time in school and certain payback tours do not accrue OPFLY time and could have financial implications. Follow-on tours will not be deferred unless the needs of the service dictate otherwise. B. A Bachelors degree in any field shall be completed prior to e-resume submission and the educational transcript and standardized test score shall be submitted to CGPC IAW Ref B. C. Prior experience as a Flight Safety Officer or Ground Safety Officer is highly desired, but not required. All high-performing Aviation Officers interested in a challenging and rewarding career-broadening opportunity are highly encouraged to apply. D. Aircraft Commander Designation. Aviators holding a current First Pilot designation that previously held an Aircraft Commander designation in a CG or DOD aircraft may also apply. E. Candidates most competitive for selection to this program are top performers who have demonstrated highly effective leadership and aeronautical skills, and who have shown strong potential for success in Masters Degree level training. 4. Application Process: Applications shall be submitted NLT 8 June 2012 IAW guidance outlined in Ref B. 5.
