SAIGE WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2001 TO PROVIDE A NATIONAL FORUM FOR DISCUSSION OF ISSUES AFFECTING AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. THE SAIGE MISSION IS TO PROMOTE RECRUITMENT, RETENTION, DEVELOPMENT, AND ADVANCEMENT OF AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE EMPLOYEES, AND TO WORK TO ENSURE THEIR EQUAL TREATMENT UNDER THE LAW. 3. SAIGE MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: A. DEMONSTRATED SUPPORT FOR INCLUSION AND PROMOTION OF WOMEN AND MINORITIES WITHIN THE ARMED FORCES AND/OR FEDERAL CIVILIAN WORKFORCE. B. PROMOTED THE TENETS OF CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS, RACE RELATIONS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, HUMAN RELATIONS AND PUBLIC SERVICE PROGRAMS. C. G. INCREASED THE PARTICIPATION OF TRIBAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES (TCUS) IN FEDERAL PROGRAMS AND ENHANCED THE CAPACITY BUILDING AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE INSTITUTIONS. H. INCREASED THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TCUS TO PARTICIPATE IN AND BENEFIT FROM PROGRAMS INVOLVING CONTRACTS AND GRANTS, STUDENT AND FACULTY EMPLOYMENT, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, AND/OR THE RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS.
