IN THE TRADITION OF OVER 30 YEARS OF ECLIPSE WEEKENDS, THE GENESIS COUNCIL WILL HOST ITS FIFTH ANNUAL ECLIPSE WEEK AT THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY FROM 29MAR2012 THROUGH 4APR2012. THE THEME OF THIS YEARS EVENT IS: "OPENNESS. INCLUSION. CHANGE" 2. THE GENESIS COUNCIL IS ONE OF THE ACADEMYS CADET CULTURAL DIVERSITY ORGANIZATIONS. THE PURPOSE OF THE GENESIS COUNCIL IS TO PROVIDE A SUPPORT NETWORK FOR CADETS INVOLVED IN THE CORPS OF CADETS AND SPECIFICALLY IN THE COUNCIL, INCREASE CULTURAL AWARENESS, PROMOTE MUTUAL RESPECT, AND PROMOTE CULTURAL INITIATIVES WITHIN THE CORPS OF CADETS, CENTERED ON THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING INDIVIDUAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE. SEVERAL OTHER ACADEMY DIVERSITY COUNCILS WILL BE ASSISTING THE GENESIS COUNCIL IN HOSTING THIS TRAINING EVENT: ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN COUNCIL, WOMENS LEADERSHIP COUNCIL, INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL, COMPANEROS COUNCIL AND SPECTRUM. 3. ECLIPSE TRAINING WEEK IS DESIGNED AS A TRAINING, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITY. THIS IS INTENDED TO ENHANCE ATTENDEES KNOWLEDGE OF OFFICER ACCESSIONS, EVALUATIONS AND PROMOTIONS WHILE PROVIDING INSIGHTS AND LESSONS LEARNED INTO BEST PRACTICES FOR ENSURING SUCCESS RELATING TO COAST GUARD MISSIONS, OPERATIONS, INTERNAL POLICIES, LEADERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP. THE GENERAL PURPOSE OF EACH EVENT IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CADETS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT LEADERSHIP AS CADETS AND OFFICERS IN THE COAST GUARD. THE EVENTS PROVIDE OFFICERS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH CADETS PRINCIPLES OF LEADERSHIP AND SUCCESS FROM THEIR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, WHILE SIMULTANEOULSY PROVIDING CADETS THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT AND LEARN FROM LINE OFFICERS THROUGHOUT THE SERVICE. 4. A HALLMARK OF THE ECLIPSE TRAINING WEEK IS THE OFFICER/CADET DISCUSSIONS. DURING THESE DISCUSSIONS, OFFICERS PROVIDE CADETS INSIGHT INTO THE VARIOUS MISSIONS, OPERATIONS AND INTERNAL POLICIES OF THE COAST GUARD. CADETS DISCUSS WITH OFFICERS, THE CULTURAL AWARENESS AND RESPECT INITIATIVES PRESENT AT THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY. THESE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TRAINING, MENTORING, NETWORKING AND SHARING EXPERIENCES HAVE AIDED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUTSTANDING OFFICERS IN THE COAST GUARD. 5. ECLIPSE TRAINING WEEK SUPPORTS THE ACADEMYS STRATEGIC INITIATIVES IN GENERATING A CLIMATE OF INCLUSION, IMPROVING RETENTION, AND STRENGTHENING MINORITY RECRUITMENT AS PROSPECTIVE CADETS ARE INVITED TO VISIT THE ACADEMY DURING THIS ENRICHING AND INFORMATIVE WEEKEND. 6. COMMANDING OFFICERS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO PROMOTE ATTENDANCE AS THE DIALOGUES WITH CADETS PROVIDE OFFICERS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES TO TRAIN AND DEVELOP MENTORING RELATIONSHIPS WITH CADETS. LIMITED FUNDING FOR TAD ORDERS HAS BEEN ALLOCATED FOR JUNIOR OFFICERS (O-1 TO O-3) BY THE ACADEMY OFFICE OF INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY. REQUESTS WILL BE HANDLED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. 7. ECLIPSE WEEK MEETS THE CRITERIA OF AN INTERNAL COAST GUARD TRAINING. AS SUCH, NO CONFERENCE REQUEST FORM, QUESTIONNAIRE OR OTHER ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR TRAVELERS.
