R 111343Z MAR 13 ALCOAST 101/13 COMDTNOTE 1500 SUBJ: INTRODUCTION OF RESPONSE - ASHORE OFFICER CAREER GUIDE 1. This message announces the release of the Response Ashore - Officer Career Guide. 2. The purpose of this guide is to provide guidance to Coast Guard officers on career progression in order to help them chart a successful course within the Response - Ashore specialty. Although, this guide is not intended to be all encompassing, it identifies a career path designed to make the best qualified Response Officer. Any officer desiring a career in the Response - Ashore specialty should be proactive and seek continuing education opportunities to obtain additional competencies. The more specific competencies, training, and prior experience an officer has obtained, the more competitive he/she will become for future assignment a Response - Ashore Officer position. 3. Due to a limited number of field assignments, it is understood that an officer may not have the opportunity to acquire expertise in every Response-Ashore competency during his/her career. This guide provides career pathway options, therefore, continued discussions with OPM Officer Assignment and Career Management branches can assist in setting realistic goals, tailoring e-resumes, and expanding opportunities to develop desired competencies and experience within the Response - Ashore specialty. 4. This guide will be added as an annex to the Junior Officer Career Guide in the near future. In the meantime, this guide can be viewed and downloaded from Commandant (CG-5R) Portal Page at https://cgportal2.uscg.mil/units/cg5r/SitePages/Home.aspx. 5. Point of Contacts: A.
