R 211915Z FEB 13 ALCOAST 070/13 COMDTNOTE 1754 SUBJ: OPERATION PURPLE SUMMER CAMPS 1. Operation Purple Camps offer a free week of summer fun for military kids with parents who have been, are currently, or will be deployed. The goal of the National Military Family Association (NMFA) Operation Purple Camp program is to give military children tools to help deal with the stresses that result from a parents deployment, through a memorable camp experience in a "purple" environment. Operation Purple Camps are open to military children of all ranks and services, active and reserve components. Priority is given to children whose parents are in a deployment phase between September 2012 and December 2013. 2. Due to a limited number of available spots, the NMFA highly encourages families with children who never attended Operation Purple Camps to apply. If your child has previously attended Operation Purple Camps on more than one occasion, it is likely that he or she will not be accepted to camp this year. If you know a family with children who have never attended Operation Purple Camps, encourage them to apply so as many deserving military children as possible can benefit from the experience. 3. Campers are not selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Selections are made after the application time period has closed. Applications will be accepted between 4 February and 4 March 2013. Detailed information and application about all of the Operation Purple camps, including locations and dates, can be found by going to the NFMA website at www.militaryfamily.org and clicking on the Operation Purple icon. 4. Commanding officers and officers-in-charge are strongly encouraged to ensure the widest distribution possible to CG members and their families. 5. Questions regarding the Operation Purple program may be directed at OPC(AT)militaryfamily.org. POC for COMDT (CG-1112) is Mr. Ken OMeara at (202) 475-5150 or email: Kenneth.R.OMeara(AT)uscg.mil. 6.
