The 24th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference will be held 14-16 MARCH 2013 at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, TN. This years theme is Setting the Stage for Your Success. The conference is hosted by Women in Aviation, International (WAI). 2. The purpose of this annual conference is to foster education, career development, and training, in addition to providing networking and mentoring opportunities to members of the aviation community. Attendance at the WAI conference educates members on diversity and inclusion and has the potential to increase womens retention and improve command climates. 3. The Coast Guard Chief Financial Officer (CFO), COMDT (CG-8), as the USCG Senior financial officer has reviewed and approved limited CG attendance at this conference. This approval authorizes service obligation of appropriated funds for the purpose of attending and supporting participation in the WAI conference. Attendance at this conference is in compliance with REFS A and B. The signed CFO approval form can be found on the CG Portal at https://cglink.uscg.mil/11ee93d4. 4. Commanding Officers are encouraged to support attendance in order to further professional development of command personnel. Field attendance will be limited. As in past years, COMDT (CG-711) may fund one attendee from each air station if the unit funds one or more participants (other than or in addition to the CO). Unit attendees, including those funded by COMDT (CG-711), will count against the units travel ceiling. Permissive Orders are also authorized, IAW CH 2.a.10 of REF C. 5. Attire for the banquet will be Service Dress Blue. C. The online registration cut-off date is 2 MARCH 2013, however, there will be on-site registration. WAI is offering a reduced registration rate to military members. D. Attendees are responsible for making their own lodging accommodations. The dedication and hard work of LT Rebecca Fosha and LT Caitlin Mitchell Wurster from AIRSTA New Orleans are most heartily commended. As project officers for the CG portion of WAI, they prepared a detailed Coast Guard-specific program. Their insight and planning will further the professional development of fellow aviators. 7.
