R 231423Z JAN 13 ALCOAST 023/13 COMDTNOTE 5350 SUBJ: COAST GUARD COSPONSOR OF 2013 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ART CONTEST 1. Sponsors of the 2013 International Student Art Contest invite students to think green. Coast Guard Partnership in Education (CG PIE), Sea Partners, and the CG Auxiliary in collaboration with The Jason Project and the North American Marine Environmental Protection Association (NAMEPA) are pleased to announce this years contest theme, Lets Make Ships Greener. Students are encouraged to submit creative renditions of how they would make shipping cleaner and more energy efficient. 2. The contest is open to all students in grades K-12, including dependents of CG members. All submissions must be made online no later than 1 March 2013. Contest guidelines can be accessed in the contest announcement posted on the Civil Right Directorate website: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/cg00/cg00h//outreachprograms/pie/resources. asp. 3. Twelve entries (six from grades K-5 and six from grades 6-12) will be selected as finalists. All finalists will be required to submit their original artwork upon being notified of their selection. The winning artwork will be featured on the Coast Guard, Jason Project, and NAMEPA websites, as well as in a twelve month Lets Make Ships Greener calendar. Finalists will receive a certificate and calendar. Two grand prize winning artists (one from each grade category) will also receive a signed book and photograph from oceanographer Dr. Robert Ballard, a 100 dollar cash prize from NAMEPA, and a Coast Guard prize package. 4.
