SUBJ: SOLICITATION FOR AMERICAN LEGION SPIRIT OF SERVICE AWARD
NOMINATIONS
1.  The American Legion will present an award for outstanding
community service to an
enlisted member of the Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine
Corps. Award presentation will occur during the Annual National
Convention in Houston, TX, August 23-29, 2013.
2.  Commands are encouraged to nominate members who meet the below
criteria:
A. Military member is an E-5 or below.
B. Individual is an outstanding military professional.
C. High level of volunteer community service performed off-duty in a
local community.
3.  In addition to the above, commands should review Military
Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal recipients who meet the above
criteria, for possible nominations.
4. Commands should submit nominations in memo format.  The memo
should include a narrative describing the members involvement in
volunteer community service, and an enclosure containing a biography.
Submit nominations to Commander, Personnel Service Center (PSD-MA)
NLT 1 May 2013.  Electronic submissions are preferred and may be
forwarded to Ms. Charlene Banks at charlene.m.banks(at)uscg.mil and
copy Ms. Deneen Day at deneen.a.day(at)uscg.mil.   Direct all
questions to Ms. Banks via email.
