Coast Guard Morale, Well-Being and Recreation Manual, COMDTINST M1710.13C 1. I am pleased to announce the 2012 Coast Guard Elite Female and Male Athletes of the Year. The awardees were selected by a panel of three individuals IAW Ref (B). 2. The Elite Female Athlete of the Year is YN2 Syreeta Bromfield, stationed at the National Pollution Funds Center. YN2 Bromfield distinguished herself in the sport of basketball. In 2012, PO Bromfield was selected to participate on the Navy Womens Basketball Team as one of the co-captains. Leading her team in both points and rebounds per game, her athletic ability and team leadership were instrumental in the Navy team winning first place in the Armed Forces tournament. She then was selected as the co-captain of the All Armed Forces Womens Basketball Team that participated in the 2012 Pro-Am Womens National Basketball Tournament. The Armed Forces Women placed fourth among 20 teams. PO Bromfields passion for the sport of basketball transcended to the local community as she volunteered her time coaching girls basketball. 3. The Elite Male Athlete of the Year is LCDR Michael Danish, currently under instruction at the University of Miami. LCDR Danish distinguished himself in the sports of triathlon and mountain bike competition. LCDR Danish finished the grueling 2012 Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI in 147th place overall and 3rd in his age group. LCDR Danish finished first among military male athletes competing on the Armed Forces teams and led the Coast Guard team to its second place finish. LCDR Danish also completed numerous mountain bike races and is working towards his professional racing license in the sport. LCDR Danish gives back to his local community by helping to maintain mountain bike trails at two community parks in his area. 4. Not only have both of these fine athletes distinguished themselves in their respective sports, they have been outstanding role models on the job and in giving back to their communities. 5. Both athletes will be recognized in a ceremony at CG Headquarters in Washington, DC. Date and time to be determined. 6. LTJG Jessica Anderson, stationed at Sector Miami, is the runner up Elite Female Athlete of the Year, distinguishing herself in the sports of triathlon competition and volleyball. 7. LTJG Patrick Fernandez, stationed at TISCOM, is the runner up Elite Male Athlete of the Year, distinguishing himself in marathon competition. 8. The following individuals are commended for their athletic endeavors and have represented the Coast Guard in a highly positive way.
