Emergency preparedness is a DHS strategic goal and key facet of the Commandants Direction 2011. DHS Secretary Napolitano launched the Emergency Preparedness Initiative (EPI) in September 2010 to educate all DHS employees on ways to prepare for various emergency situations, optimize personal and public safety, and enhance overall DHS readiness. 2. In accordance with Ref A, all CG civilian employees are required to complete EPI Part I, DHS Emergency Preparedness (Course 5024470), and Part II, Emergency Preparedness/Introduction to Continuity (Course 502448), no later than 12 October 2012. 3. Both online courses can be accessed via the CG Portal at https://cgportal.uscg.mil/. Once on the CG Portal site, select the Training and Education tab in the top navigation area. Then select Learning Management System in the left navigation area. Select the course catalog tab, select Mandated Training, select subsection B of Mandated Training, and look for the DHS Emergency Preparedness courses. 4. Refer questions relating to EPI training or CG Portal, to your unit training officer or supervisor.
