On 24 July 2013, Master Chief Machinery Technician Clinton Self assumed the duties of Command Master Chief for the Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina
A 1991 graduate of Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana, he is a Machinery Technician by trade. He advanced to Chief Petty Officer in July 2006, made Master Chief, and first became a Command Master Chief in 2013.
His primary responsibility is to advise Captain Jim Martin, the Commanding Officer of the Aviation Logistics Center, on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families within the command. The Aviation Logistics Center includes 12 divisions and has over 1,400 military, civilian, and contractor employees.
Command Master Chief Self is a 21-year veteran of the Coast Guard who completed Recruit Training at Cape May, New Jersey, in April 1992.
Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Assistant Engineering Officer at SFO Southwest Harbor Maine. Other assignments include tours on the Coast Guard Cutter Kankakee as the Engineering Petty Officer in Memphis, TN; Coast Guard Cutter Cimarron in Paris Landing, TN; Marine Safety Detachment Massena, NY; Sector Field Office Southwest Harbor Maine; Coast Guard Cutter Washington in Honolulu, HI; and Loran Station St. Paul, AK.
He is a graduate of the Coast Guard Chief's Academy class CXL in Petaluma, CA, and the Coast Guard's Senior Enlisted Leadership Course in New London, CT. Master Chief Self holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Endicott College.
Master Chief Self's personal awards include 2 Coast Guard Commendations, 5 Commandant Letters of Commendation, 7 Good Conduct Medals, and 21 unit and team awards.
