Rescue 21 project personnel will follow a thorough implementation process to ensure that the sites chosen will fit
the needs of the Coast Guard, while working with environmental and wildlife experts and the communities to help preserve
the ecosystem.
The process will include the following steps:
Regional Surveys: Site visits by Coast Guard and contractor personnel to each Coast Guard Sector
results in a detailed regional plan.
Infrastructure Preparation: Establishment of remote antenna sites that support the Rescue 21
system and the installation of a data network that connects facilities with Coast Guard communications centers.
Installation and Testing: The actual, physical installation of the communications equipment at
Coast Guard facilities and communication centers throughout the region. After installation and testing, Rescue 21 will
become active, and the older legacy system will be shut down and removed.
Maintenance and Support: Ongoing follow-on maintenance and support of the Rescue 21 system.
