Construction Underway on Yemen Coast Guard's Coastal Patrol Boat
December 15, 2009-  The U.S. Coast Guard’s Office of International Acquisition is working with the Republic of Yemen’s Coast Guard on a Foreign Military Sales program to procure two 87’ Protector-class Coastal Patrol Boats.  The two CPBs, Sana’a and Aden, will be preliminary accepted and commissioned in approximately one year. The CPBs will assist the Yemen Coast Guard in addressing an anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden that is strategically important to U.S. interests.

The Office of International Acquisition is the critical link between the overall U.S. Coast Guard acquisition effort and the international community. Through Foreign Military Sales (FMS), the office provides allied partners access to the USCG’s acquisition process to deliver new articles and services. Through Excess Defense Article (EDA) transfers, the office provides a means of disposal cost avoidance for decommissioned assets. Both activities serve to build international partner capacity, while reducing risk to Coast Guard acquisition programs by creating economically efficient order quantities and stabilizing production, and establish the foundation for long-term partnerships in achieving common maritime safety and security objectives.
