CG-LIMS: Acquisition Strategy
The Coast Guard plans to incrementally modernize the logistics information systems. Existing logistics systems that cannot support new business processes will be replaced. The CG-LIMS Requirements Integrated Product Team, which is comprised of government subject matter experts from various disciplines, has developed a Mission Needs Statement and a preliminary Operational Requirements Document for the new logistics system. The next step is to develop a robust Concept of Operations and a formal Operational Requirements Document to support an acquisition strategy.
The Coast Guard plans to deliver functionality in distinct segments over a span of eight years. The strategy is to:
- replace the asset configuration and maintenance management functions of the existing Asset Logistics Management Information System (ALMIS)
- incorporate the ALMIS supply and inventory functions
- incorporate technical data, financial information and functional tools compatible with other government logistics systems
- create a set of IT tools that provide centralized accountability and visibility into the status and availability of each asset so that the Coast Guard is “Semper Paratus,” always ready, to meet the needs of the nation
