Both land- and cutter-based UAS are still in the pre-acquisition
phase, with mission needs statements and concepts of operations in development. Coast Guard flight crews are conducting joint Guardian (maritime Predator UAS) operations with Customs and Border Protection from Cape Canaveral, FL and Corpus Christi, TX. In order to expedite the use of cutter-based UAS, the Coast Guard is pursuing the feasibility of small UAS technology as an interim solution for the National Security Cutters.

The Coast Guard is working with a number of government agencies and industry to analyze the potential for Unmanned Aircraft Systems to contribute to cutter and sector command center operations.
