In January 2012, the Coast Guard began a new phase of upgrades on a HC-130H prototype by replacing obsolete cockpit equipment with new multi-function displays, along with other structural upgrades.
Six HC-130J aircraft have been accepted and incorporated into the service’s mission-ready fleet, based at Elizabeth City, N.C. Since their introduction in Fiscal Year 2008, the HC-130Js have saved lives, supported Coast Guard mobility and interdicted aliens and smugglers.
The HC-130H/J fleet carry out traditional missions including search and rescue, cargo and personnel transport, law enforcement and international ice patrol.
