CG PSC (psd-de) Mission Statement

CG PSC Disability Evaluation Branch is committed to the people of the Coast Guard. We realize that the Coast Guard’s readiness, responsiveness and ability to secure our homeland BEGINS with the readiness of its people. Our job is to assess the Coast Guard’s level of “people readiness” and help make our troops “FIT FOR DUTY” as they lead the Coast Guard into the future. When a Coast Guard member becomes incapacitated, we partner with the member and the member’s command:

Our goal is simple: make sound, timely, correct and fair decisions – every time – every case. Our decisions are based on available evidence and are made within the bounds of the law. If a decision is supportable by the evidence, is within the bounds of the law, and favors the member, we’ll make it that way every time. We strive to ensure Coast Guard members receive the maximum compensation to which they are entitled to under law and regulation.

Our responsibility is challenging: We are the central point that orchestrates the complex Physical Disability Evaluation System (PDES) – comprised of many independent actions of various stakeholders. Our success is wholly dependent upon the performance of this virtual teamwork. Our challenge is to build this teamwork and nurture it.

We are stewards of the PDES: Our charge is to continually review and when necessary, revise Coast Guard physical disability policy. We accomplish this through idea generation from all of the system’s stakeholders. It’s a continuous feedback loop as we work to educate our stakeholders regarding the PDES process.

We support all Coast Guard men and women, past and present: We administer the Coast Guard’s process for adjudicating Combat related compensation claims for our retirees. We do this with the same principles of fairness and openness as stated above. We also manage the system of waivers and physical exam reviews for those entering the Coast Guard, as well as those already on active duty.

Our goal is vital: provide the Coast Guard with a physically capable active duty and reserve force, ready to uphold America’s SHIELD OF FREEDOM.
