The Relief was one of two 120-ton 92-foot schooners built for the Service by Bierly, Hillman and Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the other being the Rescue. They were among the last strictly sail-powered cutters built for the Service.
Relief was stationed at Indianola, Texas. She disappeared from the records in 1870, as such her ultimate fate remains unknown.
