Master Chief Petty Officer Ken Sampson assumed the duties of Command Master Chief for the Eighth Coast Guard District June 2011. His primary responsibility is to advise the Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District, on issues and initiatives pertaining to all Coast Guard members and their families within the district.
The Eighth Coast Guard District is comprised of 26 states, 1,200 miles of coastland, and over 10,000 miles of inland navigable waterways. Its missions are accomplished through the dedicated service of over 4,000 active duty and reserve members, 6,000 Auxiliarists and 288 civilian personnel.
Master Chief Sampson hails from Spokane, Wash., and enlisted into the Coast Guard in 1983. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Sector Puget Sound Command Master Chief in Seattle WA. Other assignments include tours as an instructor at the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., Air Station Kodiak-Alaska Patrol Division, Air Station North Bend, Ore., Air Station Kodiak- Alaska Patrol Division, Air Station Astoria, Ore., and Group Monterey, Calif.
He is a graduate of several specialized training courses including the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy, Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course, Critical Incident Stress Management Peer/Leader Course, and Maintenance Resource Management Course.
His personal awards include three Coast Guard Commendation Medals, three Coast Guard Achievement Medals, one Commandants Letter of Commendation, four Meritorious Team Commendations, and the Recruit Training Honor Graduate Ribbon.
