Lieutenant Kenneth R. Sauerbrunn, USCG
Lieutenant Sauerbrunn graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. His first afloat assignment upon graduation was aboard USCGC DILIGENCE, a 210' Medium Endurance Cutter homeported in Wilmington, NC. Serving as Damage Control Assistant and Assistant Engineer Officer, he conducted Alien Migrant Interdiction and Counter Drug patrols in the Straits of Florida and the Gulf of Mexico.
In 2008, Lieutenant Sauerbrunn reported to USCGC STURGEON BAY as Executive Officer. There, he conducted icebreaking operations on the Hudson River during the winter months, ensuring the safe passage of fuels and home heating oil to ports between New York City and Albany. He also conducted Law Enforcement and Port Security patrols in New York Harbor and the surrounding waterways.
Lieutenant Sauerbrunn is returning to USCGC STURGEON BAY as Commanding Officer, having previously served as Finance Officer at Coast Guard Sector New York. There, he was responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of the Coast Guard operating budget for the port of New York/New Jersey. He also implemented all federal budgetary, financial, and supply policies throughout Sector New York.
Lieutenant Sauerbrunn's professional awards and achievements include the
Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, numerous
unit and team awards, and the Certified Government Financial Manager
designation. He is originally from North Haven, CT.
