Introduction
CGC Juniper: ATON Excellence.Reporting Aboard
Welcome Aboard! Here on the Coast Guard Cutter Juniper you will undergo exciting missions from Buoy Tending to Maritime Law Enforcement. You will also meet a great crew and outgoing command. Your Commanding Officer (CO) is CDR Jeffrey Swanson and the Executive Officer (XO) is LT Robert Cole. The Coast Guard Cutter Juniper is located at Pier Two, Newport Naval Base. Also stationed on the pier are the Coast Guard Cutters Willow (WLB-202) and Ida Lewis (WLM-551). There is also a Maintenance Augmentation Team (MAT) stationed on the pier. Reporting:
- If the ship is in port you will check in with the Quarter Deck.
- If you report during the work week (Mon-Fri 8:00-13:00) while JUNIPER is underway you will check in with the MAT team located on Pier Two.
- If you report during the weekend, you will check in at one of the other two cutters located on the pier: Willow (WLB 202) or Ida Lewis (WLM 551).
- If for any reason there are no cutters moored at the pier, you will contact PERSU Air Station Cape Cod at (508)-968-6320
- Upon reporting you will be given an Indoctrination/Check-in sheet which will introduce you to the necessary personnel to get you off on the right foot. You will also receive a sponsor who will be able to walk you through the cutter and answer any questions you may have.

There is government housing available within 7 miles of the base. For more information call the housing office at (401)841-4209 or go to the housing office website. In order to live in government housing a release must be approved by the Air Station Cape Cod housing officer, which can be obtained by contacting the following number: (508)968-6503. Because of Newport's reputation as a famous tourist area, rentals on the economy tend to be more expensive and hard to come by in the summer months and very expensive to heat in the winter months. Utilities in housing are free. The navy Fleet and Family support center (401-841-2283) has air mattresses, dining ware, etc. to borrow for those new to the area awaiting household good shipments.
Departments
If you are reporting into the ship as a SN you will be assigned to Deck Force, and if you are reporting in as a FN you will be assigned to the Engineering Department. If you are reporting in rated you will be set up with your designated department. You can always call the ship to find out who your sponsor will be and also talk with your department head.
