Work-Life Programs and Services
The mission of Work Life is to create a network of individuals and organizations to support Coast Guard members, employees and their families to enhance mission performance. The Work Life initiative seeks to help individuals strike a reasonable balance between their needs and the needs of the Coast Guard.
PRESEPARATION COUNSELING: Public Law states that all members departing active duty should be provided Preseparation Counseling by their designated unit representative or administrative office. More information can be found in COMDTINST 1900.2A.
TRANSITION ASSISTANCE WORKSHOPS: Three TAP classes are held per year in Southeast Alaska (one each in: Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan) providing information on VA Benefits, TRICARE, Retired Pay and Career Information.
DISABLED AMERICAN VETERAN APPOINTMENTS: DAV provides scheduled private appointments for assistance with disability paperwork several times per year in Kodiak. Appointments & attendance to workshops are scheduled year round by the TAP manager. TRM provides civilian & federal resume information and assistance by appointment.

Spousal Employment: We provide information to spouses moving to Kodiak on local employment. Career coaching and federal employment information is available to all spouses. We have a career library and coaching appointments available.

Ombudsmen are appointed by their respective command and expected to understand and support command policy and effectively work with command and the active duty Coast Guard members and families. Unit Ombudsmen are volunteers and are usually a spouse, reservist or auxiliarists. The role of the Ombudsman is to refer families to appropriate sources of assistance in resolving family related questions.
Attributes of the role of the Ombudsman include:
Unit Ombudsman efforts are coordinated through the Work-Life Ombudsman Coordinator. The Coordinator serves as the point of contact for unit ombudsman and conducts annual training sessions.
The Employee Assistance Program Coordinator (EAPC) provides oversight and quality assurance on EAP program.
Purpose of EAP: The EAP provides free, confidential, professional assessments, referrals, and counseling designed to help people resolve personal, work or family issues. The EAP also provides financial, legal and supervisory consultations. Services and Resources Available from the EAP:

The Coast Guard Family Advocacy Program (COMDTINST 1752.1) is a congressionally mandated program intended to prevent and reduce the incidence of family violence and create an environment of intolerance for such behavior. Education and proper intervention and rehabilitation services result in prevention of the escalation of violence, serious injury, and homicide. Services are provided to retain productive members in their Coast Guard careers and support the accomplishment of the CG mission.

FAMILY CHILD CARE: The Family Child Care (FCC) program provides a safe and dependable alternative child care for Coast Guard members. This office provides training and ensures Coast Guard Certification requirements are met. The following services and resources are available within the program:
SPECIAL NEEDS: The Special Needs program is intended to ensure family and Coast Guard needs are met by assisting the member with finding appropriate referrals and resources before, during and after relocation. The following services and resources are available with this program:
ADOPTION REIMBURSEMENT: The Adoption Reimbursement Program will subsidize the adoption of children under the age of 18 years of age up to $2000.00 per child after the adoption is final. The following serviced are resources are available within this program:
